Step 1: Connect Your Trezor Device
To begin, connect your Trezor device to your computer using the provided USB cable. Ensure that your device is powered on and ready for use.
Note: If you're using the Trezor Model T, ensure the screen is active. The Trezor One may require you to manually turn on the device using the physical button.
Once your device is connected, you should see a prompt to initialize the setup.
Step 2: Install Trezor Bridge (If Not Already Installed)
If you have not yet installed the Trezor Bridge software, follow the link below to download and install it. Trezor Bridge is the essential software that allows communication between your browser and Trezor device.
Once installed, your browser will recognize the Trezor device and establish a connection for the setup process.
Step 3: Initialize the Trezor Device
Now that your device is connected, you will be prompted to initialize the device. You will have two options:
- Create a new wallet — If you are setting up a wallet for the first time, select this option to create a new wallet.
- Recover a wallet — If you already have a Trezor device and a recovery seed, choose this option to restore your wallet using the seed.
Tip: It is highly recommended that you write down your recovery seed on paper and store it securely. Your seed is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Step 4: Create Your PIN
Your Trezor device requires a PIN to ensure the security of your funds. Follow the prompts on the device to set up your PIN. Your PIN should be 4 to 9 digits long, and we recommend using a number that is not easily guessable.
Important: Do not share your PIN with anyone. This is a critical part of protecting your device from unauthorized access.
Step 5: Write Down Your Recovery Seed
Your Trezor will show you a recovery seed, which is a list of 12 to 24 words. This recovery seed is your backup in case you lose access to your device.
Important: Write the recovery seed down on paper and store it in a safe place. Do not store it digitally, as it could be accessed by hackers.
Once you’ve written it down, verify that you have recorded it correctly by selecting the words in the correct order on the Trezor device screen.
Step 6: Set Up a Passphrase (Optional)
If you want an extra layer of security, you can set up a passphrase in addition to your PIN and recovery seed. This is an optional step but highly recommended for users who wish to further secure their wallet.
The passphrase will serve as an additional key to your wallet and will allow you to create hidden wallets. If you choose to set a passphrase, make sure to remember it. It cannot be recovered if lost.
Step 7: Complete Your Setup
Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed the setup of your Trezor device. Your wallet is now ready to use. You can start receiving, sending, and managing your cryptocurrencies securely.
Important: Remember to back up your recovery seed and PIN, and ensure that you keep them in a secure location. If you need to recover your wallet in the future, this information will be essential.
Now that your Trezor is set up, we recommend exploring the Trezor Suite software to manage your wallet, check your balance, and make transactions.
